Phentermine
Phentermine is a pharmaceutically produced medical drug used for the treatment of obesity. It is not natural or herbal but is made up of pharmaceutically produced chemicals. It works as an appetite suppressant and is now a controlled substance in the US and the UK. It should only be obtained from your GP. Phentermine has been marketed under the generic name Phentermine, but it has also been re-branded under many names by different pharmaceutical companies including:
- Adipex P - brand name in the US
- Anoxine
- Ionamin - available in Australia, discontinued in the US
- Duromine - available in New Zealand, Australia & South Africa
- Fastin -removed from the US and UK markets in 1998
- Obephen
- Obermine
- Obestin-30
- Phentrol
- Pro-Fast SA

- Oby-Trim
Phentermine’s History
In 1959, Phentermine was approved by the FDA as an appetite suppressant drug for the clinically obese. In the 1970s, it came to the market as prescription-only weight loss drug and over the next two decades, it became the most prominent and widely used weight loss drug on the market. This was partly due to the advent of the internet during the 1990s, as Phentermine became available to buy through online pharmacies without a prescription.
However, in the late 1990s, the US government removed the rights of online pharmacies to sell Phentermine and it became a prescription-only weight loss drug once more. This was due to the FDA request in 1997 for Fen-Phen to be voluntarily removed from the market. Fen-Phen was a combination of fenfluramine (the Fen part) and Phentermine (the Phen part) was created by Wyeth - one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
Fenfluramine was voluntarily removed by Wyeth from the drugs market in 1997 due to some dangerous side-effects including pulmonary hypertension and valvular heart disease. However, the FDA did not request the removal of Phentermine - instead it stipulated that it must go back to been prescription-only and should only be taken under medical supervision.
Many rogue companies sell Phentermine on the internet under the generic name and under Adipex-P and Ionamin.
This is illegal and it is strongly recommended that you DO NOT buy it. You may be putting your health at risk by doing so.
How It Works
Phentermine is a powerful appetite suppressant drug that works by stimulating the central nervous system. Phentermine works on the hypothalamus portion of the brain to release norepinephrine - a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger that signals a fight-or-flight response. This reduces hunger. Phentermine works outside the brain as well to release epinephrine or adrenaline causing fat cells to break down stored fat. However, its primary role is to release certain chemicals in the brain that control appetite and reduce hunger.
Side Effects
It is illegal for companies to sell Phentermine based products on the internet. Unfortunately, there is now a black market for Phentermine based products and it is strongly recommended that you do not buy Phentermine online as you may be putting your health at risk. Phentermine is prescription only for a reason. It can cause many side-effects including:
- Insomnia
- Hypertension
- Irritability
- Nervousness
- Euphoria
- Dry mouth
- Unpleasant taste
- Blurred vision
- Heartburn/Acid reflux
- Changes in libido
- Clumsiness
- Confusion
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Psychosis
- Skin rash or itching
- Stomach pain
- Fatigue
It cannot be stressed enough that Phentermine should only be obtained by prescription. The fact that it has so many side-effects is clear evidence that it should only be taken under medical supervision.
Herbal Phentermine
Many herbal diet pill companies have jumped on the band wagon of Phentermine’s success and since the late 1990s, when Phentermine became a prescription-only drug, herbal diet pills companies have created Phentermine alternatives. Many of these Phentermine alternatives contain phenylethylamine - a neurotransmitter which, in the right quantities, can control hunger.
The main problem with the Phentermine alternative diet pills is that no research has been carried out on these diet pills to prove that they work. Also, the companies have no Certificates of Analysis to prove that the optimum amount of phenylethylamine is being used. If less than the optimum amount is being used then the diet ill will NOT be effective as controlling your hunger.
As is common in the diet pill industry, many of these Phentermine alternatives are produced by companies wishing to make a quick buck out of Phentermine’s success. As a result, the diet pills are cheaply made and are ineffective at helping you to achieve your weight loss goals.
Below is a list of some Phentermine alternative diet pills available on the internet:
- Fedramine
- FentraPhen
- Ionimine
- Phenterpril
- Phentirimine
The diet pills above DO NOT have medical or scientific backing, NO clinical studies to prove that they work and NO Certificates of Analysis to prove what is actually going into each pill.
There are also diet pills such as Fenphedra and Phenterfein that have jumped of the Fen-Phen band wagon but do not appear to imitate Phentermine. They are just using the success of Fenfluramine and Phentermine to make a name that will be recognised. Yet again, these diet pills do not have much to offer. They have no scientific or medical backing, no clinical trials to prove that they work and no Certificates of Analysis to prove what ingredients are being used.
It is strongly advised that you do not waste your money on Phentermine alternatives - they will NOT deliver what they promise. If you have a BMI over 35 and you think that Phentermine may work for you, then seek advice from your doctor.
Remember that Phentermine is a prescription only drug for a reason as it is a powerful substance which can lead to some negative side-effects. It is for that reason that it MUST be taken under medical supervision.
Alternatives to Phentermine
An effective herbal alternative to Phentermine is Hoodia Gordonni which is a naturally occurring appetite suppressant.
Proactol also acts as appetite suppressant as well as being an effective fat binder. It is 100% natural and organic and is clinically proven with a CE stamp of approval.
